When you type “teen” into google, “teen mental health” comes up before “Teen Titans” and “Teen Wolf”. It is not a surprise as to why. According to a study done in The Journal of Pediatrics, in 2018, 7.4% of children aged 3-17 have diagnosed anxiety. Children of the same age are diagnosed with depression 3.2% of the time. This is in 2018, PRE-PANDEMIC.
Another study was done by Mental Health In America in 2020. This measured how many youths (age 12-17) had at least one major depressive episode (MDE) in the past year. 13.01% of youth reported at least one MDE in the past year. This number went up 99,000 from last year’s data… I cannot stress this enough; this is the reported data. Who knows what the actual numbers are?
