We all have dreams and goals we want to achieve. Sometimes we feel like we have to turn to others to get there. We almost need to draw energy from them. But what happens when they have no energy to give? How to we reach our goals? This story is a great illustration of that.
A Man and His Dream
There goes a story about a man in his mid-twenties. He had always played it safe. He did what society EXPECTED him to do.
One day he finally got the urge to do more. One day he decided to reach for his dream. The problem was that he didn’t seem to have the strength to make it happen.
He turned to his mother and asked, “Mom, can you please help me?”
His mother’s eyes softened as she sighed to her son, “I would love to help you, son, but I don’t have anymore. I have already given you every ounce of energy I have.”
Next, he visited the wise man in the town. He asked, “Master, can you please tell me where I can get the strength to reach my dreams?
The wise man said, “I have heard about it hidden atop Mt. Everest. I went to retrieve it once but came back empty handed.”
So the man hurries to the church in his town and asks the priest, “Father, where can I find the strength to achieve my dreams?”
The priest put his hand on the boy’s shoulder and said, “I find strength in prayer, my child. Strength and peace come in prayer.”
The man walks outside of the church, utterly confused. Everyone he has asked has given him a different answer for where to find strength. As he is standing there, beyond lost, an old man passing by asks him, “what is the matter? Why are you so confused?”
“I have this dream, but I don’t know where to find the strength to make it happen. I have asked EVERYONE and nobody could help me.”
The man looked at him as his eyes softened. “Nobody?” the man asked. “Did you happen to ask yourself?”
The Power Within
This is a battle we all face. The question we ask ourselves without even knowing is, “where can I find the strength?” The reality is, we all have the strength within us.
If you want to be a doctor, you can be. If you want to be a lawyer, you can be. If your life goal is to play Major League Baseball, with enough drive deep down-you can do it.
It is important to note, however, that we never get the strength from others. It always has to come from inside ourselves. That is the only way our “WHY” is strong enough to provide the juice when our mind says quit.
You can do anything you set your mind to. Get out and do it.
